A Small Room With a Long Trade List

Few rooms hold as many trades per square foot as a bathroom: waterproofing, drains, wiring, a vent fan, tile and carpentry, each waiting on the one before it. That sequence decides how long you go without the room.

We write it down before demolition, so you know which days you will have no shower and which day the room is back. If old leaks or soft subfloor turn up, the change order shows the added cost and any added days.

Work a Bathroom Remodel Covers

  • Showers and tubs

Tub out and walk-in shower in, a fresh tub surround or a full shower rebuild, with a waterproofing layer that gets time to cure before any tile goes up.

  • Tile

Floor and wall tile, niches and benches, set on a flat, solid base. More tile coverage means more days of setting and grouting, and the schedule reflects it.

  • Vanity and fixtures

Vanity, top, faucets, toilet and mirror, plus the plumbing and electrical updates needed to place them where you want and light the room well.

  • Ventilation

A correctly sized exhaust fan ducted outdoors, so steam leaves the room instead of settling into new paint, caulk and grout.

From Tear-Out to First Shower

  1. Selections lock in early

Long-lead items such as shower glass and special-order tile are picked first, and the demolition date is set around when they will arrive.

  2. Strip and rough-in

Tile, fixtures and drywall are removed, the subfloor is checked, and supply, drain and wiring changes are made to suit the new layout.

  3. Build back and hand over

Waterproofing cures and tile goes up. After grout, the fixtures, mirror, shower glass and lights are installed, and we tell you the first day the shower can be used.

Bathroom Questions We Hear

How long will the bathroom be out of use?

A typical bath takes a few weeks of work once everything has arrived. Relocated drains, custom glass or special-order tile can stretch that. Those factors go on your schedule from the start, along with the date the room should be usable again.

Can a tub become a walk-in shower?

It is one of the most common bath projects. Expect the drain to be relocated or enlarged and fresh waterproofing on the floor and walls, and the schedule leaves room for that layer to cure before tile.
