Prep Time Belongs on the Schedule

Paint that peels within a year was usually rushed. Cleaning, filling, sanding and priming take longer than the color coats, and primer and patches need drying time before the next step. We schedule that time in rather than squeezing it.

Painting can stand alone or close out a kitchen, bath, basement or whole-home project, where it is booked as the final stage.

Surfaces on the List

  • Walls and ceilings

Living rooms, bedrooms, halls and stairwells, with cracks filled, patches sanded smooth and stains sealed before any finish color goes on.

  • Trim, doors and cabinets

Baseboards, door casings, interior doors and kitchen or bath cabinets, degreased and lightly sanded first. Cabinets take longest because every door is done on both sides.

  • Exterior surfaces

Exterior walls, trim, porch rails and front doors. Flaking paint comes off and raw wood gets primer first, and outside days are booked for dry, mild weather.

Before the First Brush

  • Older homes and lead

A home built before 1978 could have lead paint under the newer layers. Lead-safe prep adds containment and careful cleanup, which adds time before any color goes on.

  • Rain and temperature

Outside coats need dry wood and moderate temperatures to cure. Exterior work gets a target window, and wet days push that window back rather than rushing the job.

  • Living around it

Interior rooms can usually be done a few at a time, leaving the rest of the home in normal use. We plan that order with you before the first day.

Painting FAQs

How long does it take to paint a few rooms?

Often just a few days, depending on how much patching and priming the walls need and how many colors are involved. Cabinets and detailed trim take longer than open wall space.

Can you paint kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them?

Often, yes, if the boxes and doors are solid. Doors and drawer fronts come off and are cleaned, sanded and primed before the finish coats, which is why cabinets take longer than walls.
